Optional One-day Field Trip to Ishinomaki and Onagawa

  • Maximum number of participants: 40 (on first-come, first-served basis)

This field trip aims to promote a better understanding on the 2011 tsunami disaster, particularly in the most severely damaged municipalities of Ishinomaki City and Onagawa Town. The field trip will include explanation by specialists. The site visit will include the Ishinomaki Red Cross Hospital considered as the strongpoint of medical care, the Hiyori-yama hilltop for the overview, the inundated Manga Museum, the Ishinomaki town-cafe with an opportunity to discuss about the rebuilding of the town, and the Onagawa Town which was inundated by more than 15m depth of the tsunami. The trip will start at the symposium venue in the morning and will return to Sendai Railway Station before 5 pm. The payment includes round trip transportation and a lunch box with soft drink. Participants should register in advance to take part in this field trip.

  • 8:00-9:30(90 min. To Ishinomaki by Bus)
    Lecture by Prof. Erick(Tsunami engneering) and Kariya(Redevelopment planning)
  • 9:30-12:00(150min. Touring of Ishinomaki)
  • 9:30 Ishinomaki Red Cross hospital
    Lecture by hospital official (Disaster medicine)(20min.)   
  • 9:50 Temporary housing of Kaisei and City Centre(30min.)   
  • 10:20 Mt.Hiyori Viewing City Centre and Minami-Hama(15min.)   
  • 10:35 Through Minami-Hama and Brdge Hiyori, touring seafood processing park and Ishinomaki fishing port(30min.)   
  • 11:05 Nakase(walking a few minutes)
    Ishinomori Manga Museum(under repair)(15min.)   
  • 11:20 (walking 7~8 min.)   
  • 11:30 Ishinomaki Town cafe

  • 13:30-14:30 Touring Onagawa, lecture by Onagawa town official (60min.)
